ENGINES – There’s a good choice of engines for the C70. Power and performance isn’t in short supply here, and there’s also a diesel option for those keen on saving some money.
EXTERIOR – By adopting the popular metal folding roof concept, this second generation C70 is two cars in one: coupe and cabriolet.
INTERIOR – All the modern Volvo design cues are present in the C70’s cabin, and the car’s ergonomics are spot on – just what you’d expect. It’s a snug cabin though, especially for anyone who ventures into the rear seats, but roof down motoring is surprisingly refined.
DRIVING – While not an out-and-out sports car, this C70 is a more agile and willing performer than its predecessor. The various engines all provide ample performance, while the C70 is a comfortable commuting tool and long distance cruiser.
OWNERSHIP – Volvo’s durable and reliable nature is ever present in the C70 – it’s not a car that’s likely to let you down. It’s a surprisingly practical car, so long as you remember that it’s not a family car substitute. And the folding metal roof is a great addition; safer and less of the theft risk than a fabric roof it’s a good all-weather feature.
WHAT TO LOOK FOR – Being such a new car, faults should be rare. A full history is essential, while any damage no matter how minor should have you looking elsewhere. That test drive is still important, and it’s also recommended to check the roof’s operation – just in case.
