ENGINES – The all petrol line-up might be modest but the available engines should suit all tastes and budgets. Pick of the range is the 1.6-litre unit, which offers a good blend of economy and performance over the 1.8 and 2.0 units.
EXTERIOR – It might not boast cutting edge styling but the Tacuma’s rounded appearance is certainly easy on the eye. The Daewoo trademark face helps the Tacuma stand out, while the oversize family hatch profile is a familiar compact MPV trait.
INTERIOR – For family use the Tacuma scores highly thanks to its durable interior. There’s no point getting all precious over the upholstery when children are involved, and the Daewoo cabin offers a fine blend of versatility, comfort and refinement.
DRIVING – A solid performer, the Tacuma excels at making the task of driving an easy one. The engines pull strongly and the ride is comfortable, while the car is easy to manoeuvre around town. The lofty driving position ensures a high level of forward visibility.
OWNERSHIP – With its inexpensive price tag and modest running costs, you’re unlikely to be left out of pocket with the Tacuma. A diesel variant would be a nice alternative, assuming you could justify the price premium and rack up the miles, but overall the Tacuma is not a car that will leave you stranded.
WHAT TO LOOK FOR – An uncomplicated car, the Tacuma should prove reliable even in the twilight of its motoring life. More important is the need to ensure that the car boasts a solid service history and cosmetic damage is minimal – inside and out. A test drive is essential as it should highlight any potentially costly mechanical issues.
